What is believed to be the oldest Cummins engine in Australia has been recovered after many years powering a milking machine on a dairy farm near Toowoomba in Queensland and then lying idle in a dismantled state due to a failed rod bearing. A 3 hp engine, it is thought to have been built in the first half of 1922 under a license granted by Robert M Hvid who owned the US patents for the fuel and combustion system.

NSW Riverina farmer Ken Brain has achieved more than a 50 percent cost reduction through switching from mains electricity to Cummins diesel generator power for irrigation pumping. Early in 2017, Brain acquired a property that was set up with mains power to drive a 100 kW line bore pump. Three Cummins generator sets, designed around Cummins’ 60-litre QSK60 diesel engine, are at the heart of the emergency power plant that has been installed on a new mezzanine floor on the hospital roof, effectively adding a 10th storey to the building.

Longer engine life-to-overhaul and on-site support rated “second to none” are Cummins cornerstones of NRW’s fleet efficiency at the Middlemount coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. Thirty-one Cummins QSK50 and QSK60 engines, all with modular common rail fuel system (MCRS) technology, are powering Hitachi excavators and haul trucks at Middlemount as part of NRW’s mining services contract with the mine.
